This is the animation that I made in Interactive Media using the Windows Movie software (which is not available for download as of 2012). The white, blocky character is Bumble, the main character. Bumble is accompanied with his best friend Maurice, who is the blue stick figure. I made a total of four scenes, one being the title graphic, which plays twice between the two main scenes, and I also made the main “Bumble’s Fright” scene, and the “Party” scene which carries on into the “Cake” scene where, while tumbling across the screen, Bumble crashes in the party’s cake and gets it all over himself. The two principles of animation that I featured in my animation are squash and stretch, which occurred in the first scene, and exaggeration which is in the whole animation. I chose scenes that are very colorful and vivid because I feel like even though it isn’t a very good quality animation that its still catches the eye and is semi-interesting. I added a simple ukulele sound from Bensound. The Windows Movie software is very easy to use and adding the sound track is also very easy to download and insert with the animation. My reference or inspiration for the Bumble character is TheOdd1sOut character as they are both very simple, white characters. The video below is a quick and easy guide to learn how to animate in Krita. My social commentary idea is a mix of global warming, pollution, and air pollution. In my illustration you can see the Earth sad about being polluted and over-heating. I wanted to express the water-bottle, or waste pollution as stabbing the Earth, to show that pollution is having a huge impact on our planet. My main inspiration for the art work is the news and also Greta Thunberg and her global warming speech. I thought of the idea from an illustration of a melted globe and thought it would be a good idea to take the global warming concept and also add a few more inconveniences our planet is dealing with today. A few artists that I’ve seen that do art from a social commentary stance is Kidmograph aka Gustavo Torres, Laura Callaghan, Peekasso, and Tyler Spangler. For example, this is an artwork done by Laura Callaghan. I like this drawing because it shows the social commentary that all girls are beautiful no matter their flaws, race, or body. Since I have three topics for my social commentary art, I’m going to show organizations in Canada for all three of the issues. The first few Canadian organizations I found for Global Warming are Climate Action Network and Environmental Defence Canada. I found Pollution Probe and Ecojustice Canada for (air)pollution. Gifs are animated photo sequences that usually last up to 6 seconds max. Gifs can be used in message form to express emotions, similar to emojis. On most phones today, you are able to send short gifs back and forth to your friends via message or any communication app. Gifs are perfect to express emotion because there is no limits. Gifs can be homemade to clips of your favorite tv show. There are so many gifs out there that you can express any emotion at the click of a button. I used the Krita application that I've mentioned before to create my gif, and you can view it below. Below are a few good websites with great gifs.
This is the badge that I made for the Trappers Festival of The Pas. The Trappers Festival is a perk of The Pas. It occurs annually, and there are many competitions including dog sled races, ax throwing, fire building, and more. The theme for the festival this year is "Plaid is Plenty". The badge also had to include a form of fur. My badge is a sled dog holding a leather glove in its mouth. The dog represents the dog sled races. My plaid element is the background. The application I used to make my badge is Krita. Krita is and online animation and drawing application that you can download free.
This advertisement poster that I made with Gimp shows tourists The Pas, Manitoba. I included photos taken in The Pas of the courthouse, The Pas' infamous sign, and the wildlife. I collaged these photos together by using some of the tools on Gimp, such as the "Magic Wand" and the eraser. I specifically placed everything the way they are to show depth and balance. I tried to include some things I thought most said "The Pas".
Emoticons, or Emojis are digital "avatars" that can be used while typing or texting to show expression. Did You Know? that there are over 3000 emojis available today.
